Index at Planeta Biblioteca: technology and support to transform scientific editorial management
This week we had the pleasure of participating in Planeta Biblioteca , the Radio USAL program hosted by Julio Alonso Arévalo and dedicated to information resources, services, and technologies. The conversation was also shared on Universo Abierto , one of the leading Spanish-language blogs on libraries, documentation, open science, and scientific communication.
During the journal meeting, we discussed the origin of Index, the challenges facing scientific journal , and the role that technology can play in simplifying their management and improving the dissemination of knowledge.
Why was Index created?
Index was born from a reality that we observe in many scientific societies, universities and editorial teams.
There was a clear desire to professionalize their journal , reach more readers and advance in visibility and indexing , but they did not always have the time, budget or technological knowledge necessary to do so.
Based on listening and contact with these editors, we began to develop our own solution tailored to their real needs.
A solution for the entire publishing process
The Index platform allows you to centralize the different stages of the editorial process: from receiving manuscripts and peer review to producing and publishing articles in formats such as PDF, HTML or XML.
The goal is to reduce repetitive tasks, facilitate content tracking, and help editorial teams work from a single environment.
Digitizing is not just about incorporating a platform
One of the central themes of the conversation was that the digitization of a journal does not consist solely of implementing a technological tool.
criteria indexing are constantly evolving. Adapting to these changes requires time, expertise, and a continuous vision.
In addition, many journal are run by researchers, professors or healthcare professionals who combine this responsibility with their regular work and who do not necessarily have to be specialists in technology or editorial production.
Technology with human support
That's why our proposal combines proprietary technology with human support.
At Index, we don't just offer a platform. We work alongside editorial teams to configure their processes, answer questions, produce content, and help them adapt to the new standards of scientific communication.
We believe that technology is more useful when there is a team behind it capable of listening, guiding, and proposing solutions tailored to each journal.
The challenge of open access
In the episode we also reflect on the difficulties faced by journal with smaller teams and budgets.
Publishing knowledge in open access does not eliminate the need for good infrastructure, editorial services, and professional tools.
Therefore, facilitating access to these solutions also contributes to democratizing publishing and scientific dissemination.
Visibility, metadata, and indexing
How can a journal improve its visibility? How important is metadata? How does a publishing prepare to improve its indexing ?
These are some of the issues we addressed during the journal meeting, along with the relationship between good editorial management, the quality of processes, and a journal 's ability to reach more authors and readers.
We thank Julio Alonso Arévalo, Radio USAL and Universo Abierto for the invitation and the opportunity to share our experience and our vision on the present and future of editorial management scientific
